Celebrating Earth Day

Taking care of our environment and being eco-friendly conscious should involve more than turning off our lights for one hour tonight during “Earth Day”. Everyone can do small things each and everyday to help save the planet.
A common catch phrase from when I was in middle school comes to mind, “Reduce, Reuse, Recycle”. The first time I heard these three words was in sixth grade when a fellow class-mate was featured in our local newspaper promoting the recycling program. I can remember some of our teachers talking of the importance of less waste and to recycle whenever possible. They also warned us of the dangers that pollution caused to our ozone layer and atmosphere. “Unless you want your children to only be able to see trees in a museum, and to live in a bubble dome unable to ever go outside due to the sun’s dangerous rays. Then it is up to each and every one of you to take care of our planet”. These words spoken by my sixth grade teacher have always stayed with me.
I thought I would share this story to commemorate “Earth Day”, and as a reminder that it is up to us to be more Earth conscious. Remember every day we can “Reduce, Reuse, Recycle”.
